General Thoughts: This season was decent, which is better than I can say about most Challenge seasons in recent years.

It had some of the most drama on a season in years and it had a cool subversiveness where some of the weakest teams were running the game.

All Stars: Rivals had some good one-off moments, but I do feel like there were a lot of empty calories on this season, meaning that a lot of the drama didn’t really add to anything in the larger narrative of the season.

This also didn’t really feel like an All Stars season to me. With the lack of OGs and the lack of a great soundtrack, this felt different than the first four All Stars (and it continued to stray far away from the fun of All Stars 1 and 2).

But it didn’t feel like a flagship season, either, especially given the lack of physicality in the daily challenges, eliminations and final.

I think All Stars: Rivals will go down as a bit of a fever dream of a season. It will be remembered for Frank’s return to The Challenge, Adam and Steve…
