Make Choices For Future You (Because Present You is a Selfish Bastard)

In an age of instant gratification, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to make decisions for tomorrow rather than today.

When we want something, we want it now. Right now. And everything else in our life falls by the wayside.

How many times have you had plans to do something productive — go to the gym, study, make yourself a healthy dinner — until the slightest distraction caused you to totally change your game plan?

A friend invited you over for a beer. A new show was added on Netflix. You drove by a KFC and decided you wanted some finger lickin’ good food, not a goddamn salad.

We are incredibly quick to drop our good intentions when an easier, more comfortable option arises.

In the short term, it feels better to make decisions like these, but in the long term we suffer.

Because when we only focus on the needs of our present self, we neglect our future self. The person we want to become is quickly pushed aside for the bright, shiny object in front of us.

So how do we stop making short-sighted choices?
